Most Theologians will tell you the very first promise of God for a redeemer is found in Genesis 3:15, but I think there is a very strong parallel to the gospel of Christ found in Genesis Chapter 2.

When God created man, He formed him out of the dust of the ground, and breathed the breath of life into him. So, a little later in the chapter God decided to create a helper for Adam. Why didn’t He form woman out of the dust of the ground? God chose to put Adam into a deep sleep and take a rib from his side, and use that to form for him a helper. At this point in time Adam was a sinless man created in the image of God. God wounded his side and blood flowed from it, and the substance he pulled through the blood of a sinless Adam God created Eve, and presented to Adam’s his bride in the Garden.

Fast forward 4000-years, Jesus Christ the sinless son of God was put into a deep sleep, the sleep of death. His side was wounded, and blood flowed from that wound. Through the blood of Jesus His church was born, the Bride of Christ, and the defining moment for the history of Christianity was the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which took place in a garden.

Our God had a plan, a perfect plan, from the beginning and the pieces of that plan are woven together with such intricate detail it is truly amazing! Read your Bible and dig deep into the Scriptures. “12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12 ESV).”
