Last week we jumped ahead to Luke chapter 24 for a special Easter lesson. Today we will get back on track and pick up where we left off two-weeks ago with the ruler of the synagogue begging Jesus to come and heal his sick daughter in Luke Chapter 8 verse 40.

Luke Lesson 16 Study Questions

1.    Everybody in Capernaum knew Jairus; but no one knew that he __________ in Christ until his little daughter was at the point of death. Then he ___________ it.

2.    But as He went: Jesus did not demand that Jairus show the same _______ as the centurion did. Jesus responded to the _______ that Jairus showed and went with him, as the multitudes thronged Him.

3.    A woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years: According to the Jewish ideas of the time, if this woman touched anyone, she _________ her uncleanness to them, an uncleanness that would not allow them to take part in any aspect of Israel’s ________ (Leviticus 15:19-31).

4.    There are many things that we could find wrong with this woman’s ______. Yet more than anything, her faith was in ______, and the object of faith was much more important than the quality of faith.

5.    Master, the multitudes throng and press You: Peter and the disciples didn’t understand the difference between casual contact with Jesus and reaching out to ______ Him in ____.

6.    Jesus did it so that she would know why she was healed. When Jesus said, “Your faith has made you well” it showed the woman that it really wasn’t _________ the clothing of Jesus that healed her. Instead, it was her _____ in Jesus and what He could do for her.

7.    Do not be afraid: It sounds almost cruel for Jesus to say this to a man who just lost his daughter, but Jesus knew that _____ and _____ don’t go together. Before Jairus could really trust Jesus, he had to decide to put away fear.

8.    Jesus was often mocked and ridiculed. “Men ridiculed His origin. Men __________ His actions. Men ridiculed His claims to be Messiah. Not in all history is there such exposure of the cruelty and bestiality of ridicule as in the mocking and taunting at the ______.

9.    She is not dead, but sleeping: Jesus wasn’t out of touch with ________ when He said this. He did not play make-believe. He said this because He knew a higher reality, a _________ reality that was more certain and powerful than death itself.

10.    Her parents were astonished: Jesus didn’t fail Jairus, and He didn’t _____ the woman who needed healing. But in serving both of them, He needed to stretch the _____ of Jairus extra far.

11.    And gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases: Jesus did not only call the twelve. He also gave them power to do what He had called them to do. The same principle holds true today: whom God calls, God _______. The equipping may not be completely evident before the ministry begins, but it will be _________ along the way.

12.    Neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money: Travelling light also kept them dependent upon God. If they did not take much with them, they had to _____ the Lord for everything. If the preacher himself doesn’t ______ God, how can he tell others to trust Him?
